Summer Wishlist (Part 1)

Mikkael How far off the road do you want to go?
My [10 years younger] brother finally seems determined enough to terminate his long term complicated liaison with all-things-Philip-Morris in order to save what's left of his 28-year-old-lungs, and jump into the mountain bike wagon.
Yesterday, as we dropped by our bike shop in Unterfeldhaus to service his bike, his was so stunned by the looks of a Trek 8000 hartdtail that he seriously started to think of getting one of the beasts to join me on my adventurous lunch rides, starting daily directly from our office. As Christoph, our bike shop guy suddenly dropped the price down to € 1059, I almost heard his heart bumping.
This might be the final call for a shower in the office, as we work real hard to earn our play, but two on a midday ride can be an odor-overkill for the rest of the guys.
As we then got into talking about getting lost on a summer weekend with our bikes and spending a few nights out in the wild, we quickly came to the object topping my wishlist for the summer: The BOB Gear Ibex Bike Trailer.
The trailer featured in this article is the BOB Ibex Plus, the “Plus” indicates that the trailer comes with the dry SAK
Darren Alff had written a great in depth review of the bike trailer, which really inspired me.
I was impressed as how easy the BOB Ibex was to set up and attach to my bike. I was even more impressed by the quality of the trailer and happy to see that attaching and detaching the trailer from the bicycle was a fairly easy task
The idea of reaching unrivaled remoteness, which you could achieve on a multiple-overnight mountain bike trip, always fascinated me. At 7.7 kgs, the Ibex is lightweight and well-built, has its own suspension, combines beautifully with Dry Sak, the 100% waterproof duffle bag with 5600 cubic inches (94 liters) of capacity.
With its rugged, fully adjustable suspension system, the IBEX trailer can get you and your gear there. Ride single-track trails, riverbeds, and washboarded roads. Carry camping gear, trail tools, a weekend's worth of supplies. Get to places cars can't go. Arrive in hours while your backpacking friends take days. Go farther, see more, feel fresher.
Ibex 28 trailers are for 28" wheels, 29er mountain bikes, and 700c road bikes with full wrap fenders. Ibex Plus models include the BOB Dry Sak.
The german distributor of Bob Gear is Zwiepluszwei.de, which has a specialty bike shop in Cologne, only half an hour from where I live. The Ibex costs around € 400, and if you buy the Plus-version, you'll get the Dry Sak bundled with it.
Exciting. I guess, I'll see to it that my brother starts training soon, so that we'll get enough mileage to justify the price tag. Until then, I'll keep on saving and dreaming. :-)
