Delicious moments yesterday really, new toys are coming. Apple, of course, once again expanded their own cosmos, all things Apple now at one place. Apple does not only want to the sun of your solar system, Apple wants to be the planets of it as well.
For Apple-freaks like us, it‘s a god‘s blessing. The more gadgets we have from Apple, the more we want to connect those.
Once you hook up the iPad to your kick-ass plasma to watch a „Gone in 60 seconds“, you‘ll never want to stand up from to couch and walk back to your iPad to pause the movie. You‘ll want to control your iPad from the couch with another Apple device, preferably using your iPhone*. (Well, uhm, there is an app for that.)
Better, with AppleTV connected to your TV, you don‘t even need any cables. Everything works wirelessly from your gadget to your tv and, I strongly hope, the other way around as well.
Home stereo.
Now, this needs to be… no, it must be a part of your wireless network. Stream everything wirelessly from your iPad or let your friend play some of his stuff from his iPhone on your stereo. Apple calls it AirPlay and goes a step further. It brings video into the game.
Remember that big fat 52 inch on your wall? Yeah, from Sharp, Sony, Samsung or another far eastern tech giant, beginning with the letter S. Whatever, that TV had enough from all those TV-junk, it needs good quality stuff. Movies, Photos, Music, TV-Shows, you name it. And then there is YouTube, Netflix, your DVR.
Your TV needs the AppleTV.
Remember that awesome movie night with your friends, when you one-click-rented „Casablanca“ from the iTunes Store and instantly watched it in HD directly from your AppleTV? You will. (And your friends will never forget it.)
Bonus: You'd probably enjoy the film, whereas your mates spend the time hating every single cent they've spent on that crappy Windoze-Media-Center back home.
Games. Video games. AppleTV has enormous potential.
Just consider iPhones, iPod Touch‘s as plain game controllers, Apple already has sold a zillion of them. Now just connect all those pieces in the living room to the AppleTV hooked up to your TV. Bingo!
Welcome to the gaming heaven.
No consoles, no dvd‘s. And let us not forget: Whereas every iPhone comes with headphones and a microphone, Xbox ships with one controller only and without any accessories. Just launch your controller app and you‘re done.
And we haven‘t started yet to talk about what every iPhone alone is capable of doing. Endless possibilities.
This can be the most intelligent gaming system ever and turn millions of iPhone and iPod Touch users to instant gamers.
BTW, wouldn‘t it be awesome to play games on the big screen directly from your iPad or iPhone? How about online games with other friends. I see Apple in the games business pretty soon.
iTunes Store does not let you BUY stuff through the AppleTV, though it lets you rent it. And then streams the content to your AppleTV.
Apple might be right here.
We love to consume things but rarely want to own stuff. We don‘t buy the DVD of every film we watch, but we always want to go to the movies to see one. Restaurant food versus deep frozen. But, vorsicht, no one likes to wait an hour for food.
Instant gratification a must, the rented film must load fast and start soon. I doubt that – Sooner or later either one will blow up: my router or the iTunes server.
Oh, not to forget: If you desperately need to own your copy of your favorite James Bond flick, Apple says, open your laptop, launch iTunes and download it.
Then you can stream it back to your AppleTV.
