Resolutions

Somebody, I guess it was my father, told me a long time ago, that all my deeds on the last day of a year will be an indication of those to come in the new year. I have never been an overly superstitious guy myself, but this remained somewhere in my consciousness all along.

I believe, it’s not only the resolutions you plan or the ribbons on your finger which inspire a fresh start, it is more what you do on that particular day. Complicated? Not really.

Say, you wish to stop smoking. You don’t carry that wish around for days and chew it like a gum until no one wants to hear it anymore. My yang says, you quit smoking on December 31st or bust!

For this reason, I prefer to decide very carefully on what to prioritize and what to avoid. We don’t want bad luck all year, right? And as today happens to be that very day, I have been alert all day since this morning.

So, here is a list of my personal resolutions, the goods, the bads, the uglies and today’s deeds along with it

1. Demand your 8-hour-sleep and get up early. I got up at 6:00 AM today, slept like a top.

2. Meditate regularly. Thanks to Mr Jack Kornfield, I had a guided meditation session about 30 minutes.

3. Read the morning news. I wish we had fewer tanks and bombs, less suffering on front pages of newspapers.

4. No quarrels.

5. Get out and ride. You betcha!

6. Work less and spend more time with family. Yes sir, done! - And mom, you’re always in my thoughts and prayers.

7. No TV. Less TV. I unplugged the sucker!

8. Quality time with friends. Nice dinner tonight, great food and wine.

9. Write something.

10. Stay healthy and injury-free. It’s been a fantastic day, no pain, no stress.

I know that most of the above cannot be accomplished on one single day, but I have been prepping for it for a while and it worked fine so far. If I don’t goof off the rest of day, it could be a good new year. Not bad, huh?

I wish every one who stumbled across my blog today all the best for the new year! Make it your best ever!
